Back pain is one of the most common complaints people will have at some point in their life. Back pain can be caused by accidents, injuries, or certain medical conditions. Regardless of the cause, it is essential to treat the underlying symptoms as part of an effective treatment plan.

#1: Improper Lifting

You can pull muscles and tendons, pop a disc, or pinch nerves in the lower back when you do not lift objects correctly. You can injure your lower back as well if you attempt to lift an object that is too heavy.

#2: Muscle Spasms

Your muscles can contract suddenly and cause your back to seize, resulting in pain and discomfort. Muscle spasms can occur when you have pulled a muscle, tendon, or ligament in the back.

#3: Arthritis

If you have arthritis and the condition is in the joints in the spinal column, you can experience back pain. You often notice stiffness and inflammation in areas where the arthritis is flaring up.

#4: Auto Accidents

The impacts from being in an auto accident can send shockwaves into the body and cause injuries to the back. Soft tissue damage can also occur, resulting in soreness, swelling, and bruising.

#5: Slipped Discs

If the outer ring around the disc is torn or become weakened due to weak muscles, it can slip up when you turn, twist, or lift something. Being overweight can also place strain on the discs causing them to slip.

#6: Fibromyalgia

This medical condition can cause discomfort, pain, and general achiness in the back. Fibromyalgia is a result of abnormalities in the body’s nervous system.

#7: Stress and Anxiety

If you are over-stressed or overly anxious, you may notice tightness and soreness in your muscles in your back, especially the upper back.

#8: Poor Posture

If you slump or lean over your desk, or slouch when standing, you can place strain on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the back. The added strain can result in pain and discomfort in various areas of the back.

#9: Slipping, Tripping, and Falling

Any of these accidents can cause the muscles in your back to tighten in response. Depending on whether you attempt to brace yourself or the impact from falling, you can cause injury to your back.

#10: Osteoporosis

Osteoporosis is a medical condition where the mass of the bones decreases as the condition progresses. With less bone mass in the back, it can make the bones weaker and more prone to fractures, as well as cause back pain.
